Thank you Barron Knaus for your “team” guidance.

The tradition of the “last ride” at the Missouri State 4H Horse Show was reality for Kate (aboard Sky) this weekend. Seniors take their final ride before a large crowd of family and friends. Kate had a large group supporting her at this memorable event. Reading letters of support, memories and future goals tug at your heart strings and the ride continues around this grand arena. Kate is off to college but not far from our thoughts.

Elise and Rosemarie “H P Good Sensation” had an amazing 4H State Fair 2017. The smallest class consisted of 26 entries and her largest class had over 40. They captured first place in trial with a highest score over 4 different divisions. They won the western pleasure, horsemanship and equitation as well. Second in showmanship and fourth in hunter under saddle. What a weekend! What a State Fair. Congratulations girls.

The girls exhibited poise and confidence helping them capture the State titles in several classes. Great job, wonderful show and a shout out to all the 4h leaders and helpers that made this a very organized and fun experience. The over the top wild water fights and street dance made some fun memories as well.

We all miss him terribly and are thankful for the wonderful years with him and for his one hundred percent safe rides he graciously gave to the smallest of our riders. Goodbye sweet Lacey. Rest in peace lovely lady.

Lacey is now free of pain and lameness and
is happily munching on her beloved grass.
Lacey was a World Champion at Pinto World's
and was the most calm, willing horse I've ever
owned. She was a joy to ride, especially her smooth
as silk jog, and her agility at trail work. She always
knew the patterns better than me. I feel honored
to have been a small part of her show career.

Thank you all for your prayers. They have meant
alot as I struggled with her illness from a half
a world away.

Born March 1, 2002 Callie (P. S. Return to Sender) was nothing but pure elegance from the moment I saw her as a filly standing out in a turn out pasture in Wichita, Kansas. I knew I had to have her when I first saw this tall grey gorgeous creature. A superstar who “floated” and wowed the crowd - loved by so many. We lost Callie on Monday, September 23, 2013. She will be missed by many. Our hearts are broken.

Poor Fiona has an abscess. She has been instructed to soak her little toes and take her medicine. You will see she is holding the tube and taking her meds/bute like a good girl, all by herself. Thank you Rachel for all the constant care. Fiona will be allowed out to roam the property soon. For now, she is resting and healing.

Trail Day at Katella Farms 3/10/13

Despite the weather, we had a great turnout for the Katella Trail Clinic.  Everyone was able to brush up on or work on some new skills.  Thanks Mike Higgins for all your help preparing the arena and dragging in our many trail obstacles.  Thanks Christy Higgins for the snacks, great awards and Pizza Party. At the half-way mark, part of the clinic include Pizza and pop on horseback.  Following the Pizza party we went back to trail then prepared for a very competitive egg and spoon contest.  I had to work hard get these tough competitors to drop an egg! 1st place winner in the Senior Division was Lindsey riding DeNiro, second was Mimi riding Tyler and third was Kate on Elmer. First Place Junior Division Claire on RobRoy, second was Tori on Lexi and third was Krystal on Hank.  Everyone had such a good time and the horses took everything in stride and all won blue ribbons for that!

Welcome Elmer! Kate, Ella and Dad (Mike) drove a long way to pick up this gorgeous fella! Elmer had a long ride from northern Nebraska to make his way to the farm in Lees Summit Monday, February 18, 2013. This is Kate’s new show horse. Everyone very excited to see him! Congratulations Kate! Welcome Elmer!

Welcome “Big Roy”.  Roy arrived Monday 2/18/13 after a long trip from Dodge City, Kansas.  Roy has quite a lot of training  and handle on him.  Most importantly,  he is so very gentle and kind.  The children are going to adore him especially when they experience his soft, slow, effortless lope.  We are all excited to have Roy join our family.  Thank you Joe for sending him to us.

Sam, Marlo and Penelope were very excited to welcome their new horse “ Lilly” to her new home on Sunday February 10, 2013! Congratulations. Lilly has a wonderful new home!

Last Fall Gabby came out to the farm several times working with Kathy on Gabby's High School Project using video, props, many photos and of course the star himself "Hank". Gabby did an outstanding job pulling it all together. She Won First Place and is Going on to the next round of competition. Congratulations Gabby and Hank!

Lindsey and her horse “DeNiro” ( Registered name “Knock Em All Out”) won the 2012 Year End High Point Novice Division award for the Missouri Paint Horse Club. They worked very hard and her Mom, Rachel, drove many miles to attend the shows this past season. The bronze award is a one of a kind painted to mirror DeNiro, blues eyes and all! Congratulations!

“The End” of the ride – Megan and Hank finishing up a fun lesson!

YY 2012 KATELLA FARMS HALLOWEEN DOG RACES (Wyatt)
The competition was fierce! Sue Hilton and Courtney (with Sadie) made the long trip to challenge the Katella Stable of Canines all ready to run their hearts out. No one is sure who crossed the finish line first…too much excitement! Lincoln with jockey aboard decided it might be better if Lincoln would take a plunge in the pond and try to drown his unwelcome guest. The jockey survived and Lincoln ran a good race soaked, jockey and all! It was great fun for all!

Since our miniature donkey "Fiona" a/k/a "Donkey" arrived at Katella Farms January 2012 nothing has been the same. She is like our big dog only much more crafty and so very smart. Just ask her.
